it’s better together

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Literally saw the entire cast of Dragon Ball Z strutting around school today. YUP, it was awesome.

In honour of this fabulous holiday, I’ve eaten some chocolate.

OH, and also dedicated this weeks craft to celebrating it.

Pumpkin carving wuddup!

Crafts are the most fun when they’re done together. Write that down.

I’ve added some pictures from our evening. Enjoy!

Summertime Sadness

Well Folks,

Halloween is almost here, and costume choices have been made.

For me this year, Ms. Frizzle is the obvious choice. I’m pretty excited for Halloween.

By excited, what I really mean is I’m obsessed. Pumpkins, Pie and those slutty cop costumes, I love it all.

But for this week, I did a summertime throwback circa 2002.

When I was a kid, out at the cabin, we would make these round bracelets with different coloured yarn. We called them the Chinese staircase, and they were awesome.

This week I took a new spin on that old craft. HOW? you’re asking yourself.

Well, my loyal reader.. I amped up every 10 year old girls favourite pastime by adding headphones.

I got the idea from a girl at the gym who was rocking this look and decided I had to make them for myself.

The one thing I didn’t account for was how long headphone wires are. They’re like, really, really long.

But thats besides the point, because the craft itself, is awesome.

For my pair, I chose four different coloured strings. Really, you could use any number and all that will change is the width of you cord. The more you add, the thicker it will be. Also you’ll want to cut your pieces of string VERY long, because as I mentioned.. headphone wires are REAL long.

Below, I’ve attached a link to a simple guide that explains the stitch. If you’re unsure how that works, check it out. But, if you already know the stitch, don’t even bother.

Just tie a knot at the bottom of your cord, right by the headphone jack, and get going.

I’ve attached some picture of my headphones and their new look. Not complete, but still just adorable.

The cord, looking cute.

Some might argue I was a bit excessive with the string... Haters gonna hate yunno?

That’s all for now,

Enjoy the ‘ween.

Can’t wait to see the costumes.

Cheers to Eighty-Six Years!

Hey Crafters!

Time to get excited.

This week’s blog is all about card crafting. Debatably (not a debate, actually just a fact) they’re the best craft known to man.

I have been making cards for special events in my family for the past three years. I started this when I was living away from home and since then it has just become tradition. Birthdays or otherwise, I love card crafting.

With My Grandpa’s birthday this past Wednesday, It was all the excuse I needed to commit this week post to cards.

Confession; my card game is on point.

so now that you know, let’s talk why.

The art behind card crafting is simple. Make it personal.

A system I always use to assure that theres a certain personal element is to choose one or two things I know and love about the person I’m crafting for, and use those as the central theme of the card.

I also always make my cards using various sheets of coloured paper, and markers.

Sticking with these materials assures that my cards always have that specific look I like so much.

So drum roll please, Let’s check out Grandpa Guy’s B-day card:

As I mentioned, I believe it’s important to always stick with the theme, So for my tech savy grandpa… That decision was easy.

I plotted out the card like a text conversation, and even incorporated emoji’s for the lol’z.

So there it is, Card Crafting 101.

SO use that next birthday or anniversary as an excuse to get card crafty.

You might surprise yourself!

Cheers, Maddi

Never too new, for a new look

So… congrats to all my Creative Communication friends, we’ve made it through the first month of this nothing less than intensive program!

With that being said, we’re ONLY a month in. We are four blog posts deep, and I already feel this burning desire to change it up.

I’m not talking about dropping out, because although I almost lost my sanity choosing an editorial topic, I’m gonna try and stick it out..

I’m talking about changing up the look of this boring blog.

Like, where on Earth did my background photo go?! I noticed the other day it just didn’t exist anymore. That was a concern..

So, today I did something about it.

I decided to dedicate this week’s craft to setting up and photographing a layout for the background blog. Talk about redesign, AMMIRITE?

Obviously, sparkles were a priority.

Beyond perfect sparkle placement, and taking an adorable background photo. Some of the pictures that accompanied previous posts needed an update.

From here onwards I vow to put my DSLR to work. Gone are the days of taking photos with my smartphone, in the dark. oopps!

Hope you enjoy the new look.

Yours, Maddi.

Etsy everything.

Hi again!

So guess what, this past Saturday some VERY exciting happened…

No, not the Bombers game. Spoiler alert: they lost.

I’m talking about the Etsy craft sale that went down right here in Winnipeg.

At the St. James Civic Centre to be specific. The guest list included every 20 something year old girl in the city, and their boyfriend. And their baby.

I arrived just before 11 a.m. and already the line was out the door.

Lucky for me and my poor choice of apparel (Jeans and a long sleeve in +30), the line moved quick and within minutes I was busy inside harassing the proud crafters with 20 questions.

Check out some pics:
