Sliced and Diced

Hey Folks!

Sorry I took last week off blogging, I was “reading”.

I say “reading” because I can’t actually read, I’m illiterate.

Even though I wasn’t active on the blog scene…Super craft 2015 was on the brain, and Pops and I got a lot of work done on the table. My god we’re talented, that thing is looking goooood.

Remember ‘The perfect 90’ post, when we made legs for the table? Well…. my dad didn’t. Him and my brother were making cutting boards and my dad mistook those perfectly crafted maple legs for scrap wood. My craftsmanship was mistaken for crap? there’s a fifth time for everything.

He woodworks in a button-down, that's his first problem.

So anyways, the outside pieces of my brother Riley’s new boards are what used to be the legs to my table, and yes. That’s why the boards look so good.

Don’t lose sleep over the legs, they were easy to re-craft. and they’re even BETTER this time (if that’s possible).

We also got lots of work done on the tabletop. Essentially an oversized cutting board, tabletops are very rewarding.

Slicing and dicing, I cut those pieces to the perfect length.

Once we had the length of the wood all sorted out, we chopped the wood into skinny pieces.

Scribble on cause it's fun. And also important, apparently.

So not only did we do my brother a public service this week by gifting him my legs, we also did some seriously cool crafting.

Soar? or Sore?

Because nothing says “you’re special” like a generic card, this week I mass crafted Valentines day cards…

Would have loved to hand draw each and every last picture, but the copy and paste is just so much more effective.

This week, you (and a couple dozen other people) make my heart soar.

I drew this image in InDesign using pen tool. The pen tool, which has caused me to rage blackout in the past (JK….) is getting easier with practice, so this image didn’t take to long to put together. YAYY!

copy and paste, am I right?

I cut those bad boys up and pasted them onto a larger sheet of pink paper I had. Feel special yet?

And there they are looking cute.

Super easy, pretty fun. I would advise any crafter to give this desktop publishing/carding crafting thing a try. It will change your world.

Happy Valentines day, and a happier break (assuming you’ll be on reading week…).

The Perfect 90

Let’s talk legs.

Sorry, not mine. Although I know they are fantastic…

Jk and not Jk, I’m talking table legs.

Last week we sawed, planed, jointed, glued and squished.

This week was far less complicated. Thx gawd.

First came the gruelling process of taking the 300 clamps off ┬áthe old stack of wood. (It was actually 7 clamps, and the stack is new…minor details.)

Just a casual excessive clamp action shot

Then, putting paint scraper to wood… things got wild.

I went overboard and I’ll never apologize for it.

Could not get enough... it was weird and awkward for all involved

Next, I put the to be legs through the dreaded planer….

The body language says it all….

Great news, it was worth working through the fear.

The legs after a round or two through the planer

and then after a couple dozen times through the planer...

and then after a couple dozen times through the planer…

Sort of, kind of made a HUGE difference.

And there we have it….

The final product... Some perfectly symmetrical legs. pure luck.

The final product… Some perfectly symmetrical legs. pure luck.

So there it is, a bit of skill, a bit of improvisation, and a truck load of luck. The legs are done.

Next week we’re taking a break from the table to focus on an old classic, the V-day cards.

I bet you can HARDLY wait….

You’re going to have to though. HAHA.

Yours truly,

Maddi
